Quarterly performance figures for Local Criminal Justice Boards published

The figures, for the quarter to September 2007 and covering England and Wales, show:
1.44 million offences were brought to justice in the twelve months to September 2007. This exceeds the level of the PSA target to bring 1.25 million offences to justice in 2007/08, and represents an increase of 44% on the baseline year ending March 2002.
The offences brought to justice (OBTJ) were broken down as follows; 49% convictions, 27% cautions, 10% penalty notices for disorder (PNDs), 8% taken into consideration (TICs) and 6% formal warnings.
Performance on public confidence in the CJS for the year to September 2007 was at 43% which is equal to the baseline of 43% for the year ending March 2005.
The proportion of ineffective trials in the Crown Court has fallen to 12.0% from 23.7% in 2002, therefore on trajectory to meet the March 2008 target of 14.0%.
The proportion of ineffective trials in Magistrates’ Courts has fallen to 18.2% from 30.9% in 2002, therefore on trajectory to meet the March 2008 target of 19%.
The total value of fines collected as a percentage of the value of fines imposed (excluding confiscation orders) across Local Criminal Justice Board areas has decreased from 93% for the period April to June 2007 to 91% for the period July to September 2007, however, it is still exceeding the 2007/08 target of 85%.
The number of outstanding Failure To Appear (FTA) warrants has decreased by 43% since March 2005, and has not achieved the March 2008 target of a 47% reduction.
The proportion of FTA warrants notified to the police within 1 working day was 94% for the period July and September 2006 and has remained at 94% for the period July to September 2007, exceeding the 90% target. The proportion notified within 3 working days has remained constant at 99% over the same period.
The proportion of FTA warrants executed in a timely manner, between July and September 2007, for Category A warrants was 62% within 14 working days, for Category B warrants was 67% within 21 working days and for Category C warrants was 58% within 28 working days, against a target of 70%, 70% and 60% respectively.
The average time to resolve community penalty breaches for the period July to September 2007 was 42 days against a target of 35 days.
The percentage of breaches resolved within 25 working days for the period July to September 2007 was 53%, not achieving the target level of 60%.
There were 1,966 confiscations orders obtained for the period April to September 2007, which is 102% of the financial year to date trajectory. The value of the confiscation orders obtained were £45 million, which is also above the financial year to date target.
There were 494 restraint orders for the period April to September 2007, which is 154% of the financial year to date trajectory.
The value of confiscation orders collected for the financial year to September 2007 was £50.8 million, which is 99% of the financial year to date trajectory.
